The Worst Advice We’ve Ever Heard About Data Security

Data Security is something that should not be taken lightly. With various security breaches taking place on the National level, data security is something that should not be ignored. It’s imperative that data security should take place at every level of the life cycle for an electronic device, including the end of life of stage. Read on to learn about some of the worst advice we’ve ever heard about data security.

“You don’t need to update your software”. Trust us, this is a huge mistake. If your security software is out of date, it only makes it more vulnerable to malware and other viruses. This of course means that your computer is now a lot easier to hackers to bypass your security measures and get into your network where sensitive data is stored. It’s important to update your data frequently and often.

“Encryption is only needed for the government”. Another misconception about data security is that you only need to encrypt data if your in the military or government. Just because in movies, they often depict military having to use encrypted data does not mean that it’s just for government personnel. The fact of the matter is that encryption keeps your data safe. An encryption means that only you can read the data which makes all encrypted data much more safe from hackers and other criminals. If you have sensitive or identifying data of customers or employees, it’s a great idea to encrypt this data.

“You’re not at risk”. The fact of the matter is that everyone is potentially at risk. It doesn’t matter if your company is large or small, when it comes to hackers, they are trying to get information. Therefore, they’re going to go for a network that is easier to hack into than one that is filled with top notch security programs. Don’t let your company fall prey to another company that has experience a data breach.
